Students in Montclair are back in their classrooms and so are graduates of Montclair High School. Fifty-seven members of the MHS class of 2024 have started their freshman year at colleges and trade schools with support from the The Montclair Scholarship Fund (MSF.) MSF awarded $393,000 in scholarships on June 13 during the 2024 Senior Awards Night at Montclair High School.
The total award amount for 2024 is approximately $35,000 more than in 2023 — the result of several new named scholarships and a generous community response to the annual appeal, according to a press release from the Montclair Scholarship Fund.
Awards of $6,500 or more were given to 28 students. Awards between $5,000 and $6,000 were given to 25 students, and four students received scholarships between $1000 and $3,000.
Fifteen of the awardees are attending colleges in New Jersey — Rutgers, Montclair State University, William Paterson University, Rowan University, and Essex County Community College. The other 34 students are attending colleges out of state.
Eleven of the recipients are the first members of their family to attend college.
